About the artist

I am Bert Rood. I am 66 and I live in Pijnacker, in the Netherlands.

I trained as an electrical engineer and spent my working life in schools, as a technician in the physics department. I am married and we have three sons. Through all those years of work and family there was never any time for drawing or painting.

That changed when I had to spend a long time recovering. That is when I began. In the early days I painted with a great deal of colour, working from the middle of the canvas outwards, abstract and explosive. I am still making those bursts today.

I draw as well. I put something down on paper with a fineliner, and out of lines, dots, circles and small squares a piece grows over time. A drawing like that needs patience.

I have been painting and drawing for ten years now, and I like other people to enjoy the work.
